Mani Matter (1936–1972)

31.03.2012 – 16.09.2012

Up to the present day, Mani Matter ranks among the most popular dialect poets and songwriters in Switzerland. His humour, wit and power of words made him one of the most acclaimed Swiss artists of the twentieth century. The Bernese poet produced an outstanding array of songs; many of them are still being covered today. His pieces have become favourite national folksongs, often sung during class at school and popular among all generations. The exhibition at the Forum of Swiss History at Schwyz showcases his life and work. In specially staged rooms the visitors encounter famous themes and figures from Mani Matter’s song texts: the polar bear, the tent in the desert, the parking metre, not to forget the old railway train. An ideal setting to learn more about the man Mani Matter and his unforgettable oeuvre.
